What is Public Housing?
The Public Housing Program provides decent, safe, and affordable housing to low income persons and/or families. These properties are owned and operated by the Housing Authority. These units are available in Casselton, Kindred, and West Fargo, ND in Cass County, Ashley, ND in McIntosh County, and in Hatton, Hillsboro, Mayville, and Portland, ND in Traill County.
Do I qualify?
To qualify, your household income (including everyone who will be living with you) cannot exceed the Low (80%) income for the Housing Authority to which you are applying (select a county below to see the income limits). In addition, a criminal background check will be required.
How do I apply?
To apply, submit a completed application to the Housing Authority office. After filling out an application your name will be placed on the Public Housing Waiting List. When your name comes near the top of this list, the Housing Authority will mail you a letter with instructions on what to do next. Criminal background checks and a landlord reference will be required to confirm eligibility. Once approved, the rent will be determined by calculating 30% of your monthly adjusted income. Tenants are required to sign an initial twelve month lease with the Housing Authority.
